Specialist railway modellers and collectors have been demanding ever more detail on their models. Producers have been over-keen to satisfy them, with consequent escalating prices to a level ordinary people can no longer afford. Just announced - an 00-gauge all-singing and dancing WD 2-10-0 at a shocking £295. Plainly unaffordable for all but the tiny handful of fans who pressed for such a thing in the first place.
However much we may want more detailed models, producers have to trim to keep their products affordable - or the hobby dies.
